...his '86-87 team was honored at the half.

Mitch is looking pretty good at FF given the current state of things, the first half notwithstanding.

This loss hurts Manhattan's potential at-large chances if they should lose in the MAAC tournament. Makes me think how great our teams were from 2007-2010 were...that 45-3 probably won't be matched for a looooong time.
Fairfield has struggled because they just don't have good guards despite having a nice frontline. You have to have good guards to win at the mid-major level. Period. I don't care if you've got Shaq in his prime at center if you don't have good guards you will struggle in the MAAC.

You can always count on Mike for some hyperbole.

@jonrothstein: Fairfield beats Manhattan 71-67. Stags were previously winless in MAAC play. College basketball. Where the unexpected becomes the ordinary.

This league has more parity than most want to believe. On any given night any team can lose this season

It's actually the worst I can remember the MAAC being in a long time.

It's actually the wosrt I can remember the MAAC being in a long time. MAAC is ranked 17th in the RPI. It's not a banner year but believe me it's been worse (we've been 23/24 before). There are no great teams but no horrible ones either. Siena can still finish 5th...will be a battle with Rider being the toughest obstacle most likely.

Good point..having a completely dominate #1 team is not the sign of a good league. .its when #1 loses to #11 that makes it interesting. .some of the top HM conferences are dragged down by being top heavy with less than competitive bottom feeders.

Jaspers are actually pretty good-- dont forget today they lost without Beamon-- the 2nd best player in conference . If Beamon comes back healthy and makes it through MAAC tournament I'll be surprised if Jaspers dont win MAAC- Iona is too up and down.. Canisius counts on Baron too much to win 3 games. Jaspers are most balanced team in conference when healthy. And the Jaspers better win it this year they lose Beamon Brown and Alvardo - their 3 best players. Placing Masiello will be one of Rick Pitino's top off season priorities. If they win the MAAC he will be a hot commodity. Even if they get upset Masiello will be out of the Bronx faster than you can say a million dollars

I think Masiello is out of the Bronx pretty quick either way. Just MHO.

I think he would have to win the MAAC at a minimum to get a BCS type of offer. They have all of the pieces a mid major needs to win a game in the NCAA tourney, but they have a couple bad losses and a couple close calls against weak teams. Do you guys see him getting a BCS offer without winning the MAAC and at least playing a good game in NCAA tourney even if it comes in a loss?

I think they (Jaspers) are going to fire on all cylinders at the tournament. They didn't think they would need Beamon against us (correct, as it turned out) or Fairfield who for the last 2 minutes of the game almost served up the win to the Jaspers on a silver platter. I actually thought FF was going to lose with less than 30 seconds to go. Maisello has a ton of contacts through Pitino and getting out of the MAAC is most likely priority #1. I don't think they need to win at the NCAAs just put on a respectable show. Seeding will as usual for a MAAC team probably be a joke. If they don't win the tournament, Stevie might be stuck in Riverdale for a bit.
