Patsos is an absolute lunatic - and the scary part is I'm starting to love it. I've loved his energy since he started at Loyola. Now I love it more since he's a Saint. Remember, "we may be Saints, but we're no Angles".

Patsos describes himself as less and x and o's coach but more or a motivator/recruiting coach. He certainly pushed the right buttons last night as well as making the right adjustments. Agree. I think Greg is more of the x & o's guy. He's definitely a motivator & appears to be a really good recruiter.

A little over the top. No? Not as far as I'm concerned. He's actually mellowed since his earlier years at Loyola. There's those who are over the top without a purpose & then there's Jimmy who knows exactly what he's doing (motivator & teacher).

One of the quotes I heard him say was something like "wake up the crowd". He was trying to get the team to do something to get us to cheer.... I find it hard to get cheers going in our section. Mr Siena & I were trying but 2 or 3 people don't seem to make a difference like it does on the road in the smaller gyms. There the few of us can be heard. Of course once we caught up (score wise) then the arena joined in. There's got to be a better way to get people involved especially when were behind (that's when the Team really needs our support). Anyone can cheer when your team's ahead, it's another to cheer when down 13.

That's hilarious! Before seeing that last link I was just about to ask whether there was a good reason for that or if Jimmy just can't help himself.
I'm guessing Ryan was a little embarrassed and will not have to have that done again! That's the motivator! I don't see that as a bad thing, just a 'different' thing. We thought we knew what we were getting with JP and he still surprises us!

Gotta love it! Just when you think you've seen about everything on a basketball court, along comes Jimmy. I would hate to be in front of him in a slow moving Buffet line. Let's go Saints - it's fun to be a Saints fan again......

We thought we knew what we were getting with JP and he still surprises us! There is definitely no doubt who runs this team. There is that beautiful blend of both fear and respect the kids have for him, mixed in with a large portion of warmth and personality. Those are the ingredients for a successful teacher on any level and certainly not just coaching. Jimmy's about 90-95% calculated strategy with just enough "crazy ass" in him to scare the sh#% out of these kids. Plus the kids are beginning to love it and understand it. I bet he's an awful lot of fun to just be around.

Patsos continues to prove that we made the right choice. He is a man of his word and that is a big reason why the players respect him so much and play so hard for him and each other.

A little over the top. No? There was a definite "method to [his] madness". He had one time out left, and did not want to lose it by being charged with an "injury timeout", so he made sure that Ryan was checked in at the table, and on the floor in place of Evan, before the officials could charge Siena with a timeout. They've got to put a lapel microphone on him some game, so we can all hear [not just the folks behind the bench] what he's saying. Some of it is absolutely priceless.

Was hilarious from where I was sitting you saw Oliver say who me. Then Patsos pointed to him and tried to teach him how to check in. To me it seems like Patsos is trying to toughen the kids up to get them to respond. Also had a friend texting someone behind the bench who was relaying Jimmy quotes. Let me tell you the man is hilarious, might rub some of the recruits the wrong way though. I won't repeat what he said though. "Throughout the season, bumper sticers that read "leading the way with Earvin and Jay" were popping up around Lansing. The two were regular fixtures at Michigan State games, thanks to the box Heathcote provided for them and their friends. Problem was, that access also gave them a chance to see Heathcote up close, and it was not a pretty sight. The coach chewed out his players, berated the officials, and no matter what was happening on the court he never, ever seemed happy. "I couldn't get a read on Jud and his style," Johnson later said. "I tried, but I couldn't do it". "I was looking at Jud scream at his players and I was like, Wow, this is going to be a tough coach to play for," Vincent says. "Magic said a few times he didn't know if he could deal with how Coach Heathcote yells." Fortunately for Heathcote, Charles Tucker was in his corner. "I know ball and I could see he was a competitor," Tucker says. "He was clever. A lot of coaches will pull you out if you make a mistake and forget you're there. Jud would jump up and holler and sit a guy down. But then he'd tell them what they did wrong and send them back in the game." ("When March Went Mad", Davis, 2010, pp39-40) So I guess it is a concern, but if they have good advisers and have the ability and desire to play for a winner, it should not be a problem.
