My version of the TU does not even have an article or a blurb on today's game. Pretty bad if you ask me. Hopefully it's just my eyes

you guys sound like bitter Albany fans... Siena is coming off 3 bad years..boring basketball fans ran away--interest is at a 10 year low..we are 2-6.. sorry but outside the die hards not a lot of interest in Siena basketball. We all know how this will go, Siena starts winning and the fans ( and the interest) will follow

I fear the new economics. Don't pay for travel. Pick up a local stringer...."or cover the game via TV or on the Internet

We all know how this will go, Siena starts winning and the fans ( and the interest) will follow You're right, Tony, but even as bad as things have gotten (and I agree with many others on here that the program is on the way back up), and even on a slow night, Siena basketball will bring more than 5,000 people down to the TUC. What other sporting event within a two-and-a-half-hour drive of Albany does that? And, as you say, "Siena starts winning, and the fans (and the interest) will follow". I know that newspapers are struggling, and that they have to be more-and-more cost-conscious, but when you are the #1 sporting event in the area in terms of the number of people who come out to your event, seems to me that the local media (Channel 13 sports being the notable exception) should ALWAYS make Siena basketball the number one priority, and should provide top-level coverage of the program at all times, even through difficult times. The "Gazette" has fallen by the wayside in terms of coverage, and Andrew Santillo is still plugging away gamely at the "Record" in Troy, but for the "Times-Union" not to have ANY coverage of the program on a game day is inexplicable and inexcusable. The people responsible for sports coverage at all of the local media outlets have to know that Siena basketball continues to draw more people to games on any given night than most other area events combined, even when the team/program has been struggling. So anyone who is paying any attention at all, has to realize that the interest is still there, and if people are interested in something, they will want to read about in the papers, and watch stories about it on TV. It's not as if there is anything more compelling that they could be covering instead. Today's total lack of coverage in the T-U is very disappointing. I hope that Jason Rich (Siena's lead person for sports info) will express that disappointment and dissatisfaction to the appropriate people.

We all know how this will go, Siena starts winning and the fans ( and the interest) will follow I would disagree. Siena basketball is still by far the biggest local sports story in the Capital district regardless of our struggles. The TU loves to push High school sports (cost containment) but lets be serious it's just not a big deal in the northeast. Albany is not a pro sports town. I take it more as a cost cutting thing. Newspapers are dying in this country. That said to not even have a blurb on today's game is a joke. It's not Mark Singelais decision but the editor's I would guess.

I don’t necessarily disagree with either of you. But the fact remains Newspapers are very very cost conscious these days.. hell I wonder how many of you complaining about no TU coverage even have a subscription to the TU? I doubt MTS does. I agree with all of you it’s disappointing, but it’s not Siena's God given right to get that coverage. Other than a few misguided fans ( like big papi) most of the die hards feel Siena is headed in right direction-- and that's fine for the die hards. But to the casual fan Siena was picked 10th in their own conference, has lost 3 of the last 4 Albany cups- is headed for its 4th straight losing season. Let’s face it to the casual fan Siena has absolutely zero buzz
Once Siena starts winning and a Siena game is a "event"( Fran’s last year non Siena fans- just casual fans would talk about Siena games the day after) it may take a year or so-- but hang in there this will turn around sooner rather than later. If Siena wants full coverage for events like The old spice- Siena will have to do it the old fashion way- Earn it… and if you asked Jimmy or the team they would have it no other way

I realize what Siena is coming off...but they are playing in a major tournament. It's really not a big deal though. On a Sunday with the NFL it's going to get buried anyways. I agree with you the casual fans have dramatically dropped out and the only way to get them back is to starting winning and winning big. We are absolutely headed in the right direction. This season can be similar to Fran's first year. But the record probably won't be as good for two major reasons. Much tougher OOC schedule (though MAAC might not be as good) and don't have two returning players as good as Scoop and Kojo.

I don't remember a game in the last 20 years that didn't have an article in the TU. We weren't even listed in the games on TV section.
