@andrewsantillo: the last Siena player to win @maacsports rookie of the week was Evan Hymes (@evanhymes5) on Feb. 20, 2012 t.co/puenkLsIvmSiena won 5 of the 16 that year. Hymes 4 (most in league) and Poole 1. Pretty impressive considering the star studded class. Green, Mason, Lewis, Andujar.... I think Wright and Long have a few more in them. How many did Juan'ya Green win that year-- I know a lot of Siena fans thought Hymes should have won-- I personally thought green had one of the top freshmen years I had ever seen avg 17 ppg, 3 rebounds and 4.5 assists as a freshmen. Hell Mason had a great freshmen year also avg 15 ppg. That had to be one of the top freshmen back courts of all time

I think there was a tie with Hymes one week with one of them.

Fun Fact:
A MAAC team with a positive Assist to TO ratio hasn't finished with worse than a .500 conference record since 2005-2006 when an absolutely ridiculous 7 of the 10 MAAC teams had one.
In the recent 5 or 6 years, I think only the 9-9 Parotta coached Canisius squad with Logins & Coles finished outside the top 4 . Check that, I think a Jonathan Han team and a Tyrone Lewis team did it as well.

Before the season I was confident the team would finish .500 or better in MAAC play, I am even more confident now.

I hope Patsos is just trying to throw off scouting reports by saying JO won't play in Orlando. If it's true, they are going to have problems inside. But I don't think it's true though. If there was no chance of him playing, he wouldn't be traveling there with the team, just as he didn't against Cornell. You may be correct, however, traveling to Orlando is different since Jimmy always works in history/vacation in these types if trips. Therefore, I wouldn't read too much into JO's injury report trying to through off an opponent. Hope you're correct. Love to see him play.

The risk/reward balance is just not there, IMO. We come back from Orlando and head to Buffalo for the first two back to back MAAC games which are of infinitely more importance than a win on Sunday (the more probable day for a win, again, IMO). Having a healthy JO going against Niagara will pay more dividends in the long run. Now if we go out and upset Memphis (I'm writing this after a couple of Merlots!) then the equation changes. Absent that early Christmas gift, bank him. Rich may see time before JO and that would be good - some experience against up teams while balanced against a backcourt with a good amount of experience so far that can quickly come in and stop any bleeding if the process of shaking the rust off Rich takes longer than one would hope. Both guys will learn by listening and watching as our Maestro does his on-the-court shtick! That was good Merlot!

@marksingelais: "I don't think we would have won the Cornell game if there wasn't a bus with 45 Siena fans there.'' - Siena coach Jimmy Patsos. #sienasaints t.co/puenkLsIvmHere's a formal request: how about local Capital District posters who've never experienced a road game or bus trip road game sign up for one this season. Let's see if we can drum up enough interest to warrant more than one bus to an away game.

Loved being able to hear everything jimmy was saying it was hilarious. Don't get that experience at the tuc. When Fran was coach I was still going to Siena and when Mitch was coach I had no interest in traveling to watch crappy basketball.

After tonights scores the MAAC seems to be wide open. The MAAC is way down this year. With St. Louis and Dayton looking good the Big East may come calling and escaping to the A10 looks like a good thing. We can only dream. Being competitive with the A10 teams on the schedule and challenging for the MAAC top tier can't hurt Siena's chances.

I said 12-8 in the MAAC as a worse case scenario and 16-15 counting 4 OOC wins... and believed circumstances would dictate if we did better. JO out may have locked us is the 4 win prediction but I would rather have him back 100% for the MAAC rather worrying about an Old Spice Win. But I still expect the Saints to compete..they need to continue to play inspired basketball and act like they belong.

Yes the MAAC looks to be really soft. I really think we should be ok. UA beat Rider tonight.

How do we find out about the bus trips? Anytime I've gone to a road game, I've just gone on my own.

How do we find out about the bus trips? Anytime I've gone to a road game, I've just gone on my own. Refer to Misspractice's potpourri aka Cornell thread: Frank Pugliano runs the bus trips. You can PM Mispractice. I'll talk with Frank & see if he minds if I provide his info (email address ). Normally you'd email Frank & he'll add you to his mailings. Those of you that are in the area should definitely think Those of you that are in the area should definitely think about our upcoming trips when MAAC play begins in earnest after the Holidays. Great way to support the team and interact with some really nice and crazy fans. Contact Frank Pugliano to get added to our list. Thanks to Frank for continuing his efforts running these trips, especially after last year's disappointments. Go Saints!

I think it can happen. The games we need to win are Hofstra and Fordham at home. That gives us 4 non-conference wins. I think 12-8 is doable in the MAAC. It won't be easy but very possible especially since the MAAC looks weaker than we previously thought it would be. It's going to be tough to win games away from home so we must play well at the TUC.
