What did Rossiter weigh his freshman year? we often times get too hung up on the #'s..... I am also of the mind that if a kid can play, PLAY him.... i mean with the rate of attrition in college basketball and the # of kids who transfer every year, its a good bet 2 or 3 guys we are discussing now aren't even here in two years, much less FIVE years down the road. If you are a loaded team or have a kid who will never see the floor, red-shirt is an option, but for a team just struggling to get back to par, you play your best players, end of story..... some of you make it seem like it is beneficial that we store or stockpile players for 4 years from now, when in fact this program needs an infusion of every bit of talent it can get NOW.... if this kid is as athletic as some say, how can it hurt him in his maturation to play 15 min a game as a freshman?? no one is asking him to play the 5 for 30 minutes against seniors etc.... but there is NO middle ground with some of you... i think more would be learned playing in games then riding the pine and playing the same guys in practice every day. People have a short memory. Rossiter HAD to play as a Frosh. Yes, we had Josh Duell but he needed someone to spell him. He couldn't play the mins needed (knees). Without Rossiter we were left with: Cory Magee, Erik Harris (walk-on) & James Carr. Rossiter was basically our #2 center behind Duell. Yes, Cory played the same mins per game but Rossiter HAD to play. This year' team is a little deeper at center. Wolfe may not be needed if it's in his interest to sit out a year. We have Imoh, JO, & Bisping. We have the luxury of red shirting Wolf if needed. We didn't have the luxury of red shirting Rossiter . I don't view that team & Rossiter comparable to this team & Wolfe (big men wise). Who knows, Wolfe may not redshirt & we're debating this for nothing. Teams that go 8-24, and lose 3 of their top 5 players (the 2 back are guards--Poole & Hymes) don't have the "luxury of redshirting" anyone!! lol Again, why Silas and Bisping make all you people sleep so well at night, is a mystery.

Patsos put JO Bisping and Silas in front of Wolfe based on the practices and Montreal...we won't win more games this year with Wolfe wasting a year on the bench behind 3 guys at his position. ..redshirting him will help in the long run since he won't be helping now

In that case a redshirt may be a good idea. If he has the greatest potential of the 4-5 than play him, take our lumps and let him develop along with the team. Granted, he may have a deal to RS thats a different scenario altogether. I'm all for playing the guys with the greatest potential. I'd love to see some skinny kid with his shirt untucked flying along the baseline for a tomahawk jam or maybe a 360 dunk............. It's happened before.

JP says JO progressing nicely & could crack starting line up. I'm with PPC on this one. Some of you guys need a reality check adding MW this season isn't going to make a huge difference. We're gonna struggle to hit 500 either way. MWs playing time this season would be limited. So it's a no brainer to RS him if you can ... Barring an injury to a big.

We're gonna struggle to hit 500 ? WRONG!! One thing I did see on Saturday- This Siena team has to potential to win 17-20 games this season. It's going to leadership, discipline and hard work ! But the talent is there

I will see if I can find the article, but I seem to remember Ryan saying he learned more that freshman year playing then at any other time..... not saying that is right for everyone and yes depth wise he was needed, but that was a MUCH better team top to bottom too, so he wasn't as needed, but still played. As I said, this team is starting from scratch, so if in Jimmy's mind, this kid can contribute and help, i think he will play, regardless if it burns a year. Siena doesn't have the luxury of stockpiling bodies.... and again, what is the percentage on transfers?? ideally everyone here stays and loves it and everything goes well for 4 years, but the national average says that won't happen.... at siena's level, i see a red-shirt being used only for like injuries. that's just my opinion.... if there was some back alley hand shake on him red-shirting vs prep school, so be it and i guess that would be the exception, but most red-shirts siena has ever done have been kind of a waste.

IMO - Using a redshirt at Siena is not practical (unless there is an injury). If Wolfe stock grows tremendously, then that 5th year will be spent at major program. Also academically it does not make sense since Siena offers very few graduate programs. There are only so many undergraduate degrees one can get.

Last year, in his first year in D1, Silas had a block rate that would have put him over 60 blocks in 1000 mins and he had a FG% of 60% in actual games. All of a sudden, people are ready to put him on the scout team because he had some turnovers in Montreal and had a bad practice.
Last year in the Skidmore exhibition he fouled out in like 5 mins. Silas is probably a our best shotblocker and rebounder. He makes mental mistakes, sure. But he's a big piece of this team.
Bisping is a great shooter, maybe even our best. It doesn't seem like Jimmy is using him as one. Just 1 3PA in 5 games in Montreal? He's not a defensive star by any means but he can score.
Wolfe is a tall athletic freak with ball skills and because of that he has the highest upside. We all know that. I wouldn't redshirt him or anyone at Siena because they won't be here for year 5 but one practice also doesn't mean he's better than the other players yet either. Maybe it is inevitable that he eventually becomes a starter. But he has to earn it first.

Maybe it is inevitable that he eventually becomes a starter. But he has to earn it first. KK is on the money with Imoh's stats. This in a system where everyone knew the entire offense was geared to get OD the ball and therefore, Imoh played out of position most of the time, and most definitely in the PW's doghouse anytime he made the slightest error. Add to that that there was NO ONE on the previous coaching staff who could possibly develop a big man in any way, shape or form. Imoh has improved and his work ethic was noted when Jimmy arrived on campus as he was the only team member in the weight room regularly working under Dan Taylor prior to the arrival of the freshman class. The staff is working with him to be more verbal on the court which should help immensely. We have three very introspective quiet guys (Imoh, JO and Brett) at the 5. As for Brett shooting, I'm not convinced he is the best on the team. He can definitely catch and shoot if he is standing still but I don't recall him being very successful with any movement involved. Just my humble opinion.

Outside of LaSalle, Purdue and the Old Spice Siena's OOC really isn't that hard. UVM may be the next best. Schedule seems quite overrated actually.
Even in the Old Spice, Butler and St. Joe's have dropped a notch. St. Joes lost CJ Aiken and Carl Jones and Butler lost their coach and 3 best players. If a team clicks, upsets could be had even in that tourney.
Teams that take care of the ball tend win to win more than not, and if Wright and Long take care of the ball well for their respective positions in combination with Hymes and Poole Siena should be in a lot of games. Oliver takes care of the ball. Silas, White, Audu, and JO haven't yet proved they can. Bisping doesn't turn it over that much for a big.
A lot of our success will come from that and how we're able to defend. Wright can hopefully have an assist ratio of the 1.5 to 1 he had in Montreal or higher. If he does that he's done his job. (He had a 3.5 to 1 ratio in HS last year.)
It will come down to minimizing the mistakes of those around him and defending.

Just my humble opinion. Well, he's 6-8, he's not supposed to shoot off the dribble. Fact is, if we're on the FT line with no time on the clock and we need to make two, I think I'd want Brett shooting them. He shot like 83% last year and in HS, over 90% in Montreal. He shot 37% from three as a frosh. As a set shooter, I think he's one of, if not our best. Poole shot 27% as a frosh. Oliver just under 30%...and both have had their FT issues on both levels.

[/quote Yep, Silas is our best shotblocker, but while you're doing your little math projections, let us know nhow many fouls Imoh gets per minute played IF Bisping is our center (some using as better option than Wolfe) and he's our best shooter, we're in a world of trouble!! IF Wolfe plays all year, he'll definitely be the best big man on the team by March. IF we can all admit that this is a rebuilding year and we're gonna take our lumps, I want our most talented kids taking those lumps because the reward next year will be great. And PPC, I'm not hung up on one practice, that's just the first time I saw Wolfe. YOU'RE hung up on Montreal and how these kids did against D-2 schools. It's early in the practice season, and my guy will get better everyday, but if JP had a RS deal with the family, it's all a moot point.
