Wolfe will be redshirting this season. ..he has players more ready in front of him right now. I am saying this based on more than today's practice. Wolfe is young and lacks the strength to earn enough minutes right now. I am glad we have him as his potential is off the charts...he was going to prep and I doubt he would have been within our reach next year.... If he redshirts, then JP has officially declared this a rebuilding year, because that kid IS our best big RIGHT NOW. If Wolfe is the best big man we have right now than it would be inexcusable for Patsos to redshirt him. This is a critical year for Siena basketball. The team is coming off one of its worst seasons in history, and Patsos was hired because he was the best choice to turn the program around right away. There is absolutely no reason to defer talent. Now I would be more dismayed than ever if he redshirts.

But if he isn't going to help and only play in garbage time why would you waste a year of his four-year career? Everybody knows how big this season is for the program (and the next several seasons really). Nobody wants a long rebuilding project - certainly not Jimmy. I've always said basketball is by far the sports easiest to rebuild in (compare it to football or baseball which can take years). I expect this team to get better and better as the season goes on and win a bunch of games...how many we shall see. HJ might be right that Wolfe is the most talented big man but that doesn't mean he is automatically ready for the physical play of D1 basketball.

Half of my observation, and feelings on this, is based on his off the charts athleticism, and the other half is how incredibly disappointed I was with the lack of progress in Bisping and Silas. IF we had better bigs, I could almost see RS'ing him. It's simply not the case. I could honestly see this kid blowing up after 15-20 games. Sure he's skinny, but he's still active around the rim because he jumps so quick and high.

HJ I love Wolfe as a player and a young man but he is not more ready to hold down the 5 position than JO or Bisping physically on the defensive end let alone Silas with his shot blocking ability. ..at the end of the day he will play the 4 for this team due to his athleticism and that will be special at 6"9...but now you have Long, JO, Bisping and even Poole ahead of him at the 4...redshirt year is best for him at this point

My thoughts: --Anyone that wants to redshirt #25 Wolfe after seeing him today is CRAZY! He might be our best big. Silas and Bisping were very disappointing today. --Cole is the real deal!! He needs to lose about 15 lbs, and when he does he'll be a real good player for us. Only guy we have that can really create his own shot. Looked like a 3-year starter out there and today, and if it was your first Siena experience, you'd have thought Cole was the preseason 3rd team All-MAAC, not Poole. --#10 White is EXACTLY what we need at the 2G. He should start from day one. Much better than either Audu/Oliver. Plays hard, athletic and surprisingly can shoot the ball from deep. --Wright is a good floor general, but not as quick as I thought. He can score too, but hopefully he keeps his shot total at around 10 per game. We need him to get his teammates easy looks. --Cruz and Hopper seemed to catch most of JP's wrath! lol My starting 5 tomorrow: Wright, White, Poole, Bisping and Wolfe/Silas (toss-up)........Long and Hymes first off the bench.....J.O. will get a few minutes too, but I think Wolfe can be special by Feb. This team still needs two things next year. A combo guard that can create and score, and a legit back-to-the-basket scorer on the block. We have neither right now. Look for JP to "open up" two scholarships for this years recruiting class. I agree, Wolfe is really athletic, however, not convinced that he's ready (still learning & needs to put on weight & get stronger). He'll get pushed around in the paint. If he redshirts fine, if not that's fine too. I agree he has potential (maybe a year getting stronger & learning will only make him better. Too much depth ahead of him. Jimmy laid into Wolfe a few times (not getting back on defense). Cole is the real deal, don't agree about needing to lose weight. He has the body to help us in OOC play and if/when we get back to NCAA. White is good. His shot has a weird ball (diagonal spin/rotation to it) but he still makes more than he misses. He made too many mental mistakes early on in practice (lazy passes leading to fast break layups). He'll learn and get better. Agree Wright is a very good floor general. He's quick, but I feel that he wasn't able to showcase it by guarding Cruz (i.e., wasn't allowed to play as hard as he could against Cruz - unfair advantage wise). He could have blown by Cruz multiple times, but was running plays to get others involved. He seemed pretty fast on the fast breaks (but also under control and waiting for his trailing teammates for easy buckets). I'd say Wright can also create his own shot any time he wants (again was limited today against Cruz for a reason). Loved Lavon. Made multiple behind the back/head passes directly to his teammate in stride for easy buckets. He's got skill. Put the ball up multiple time with opposite hand (right). Started several fast breaks with pinpoint passes. It's going to be very fun to watch this season (even if we lose). Regarding the opening up scholarships. I don't get the feeling Jimmy is a guy who'll "force out" guys. If guys want to leave for whatever reason(s), I'm sure he'll replace them with as good or better talent. Definitely like what I saw from all his recruits plus Cole. JMO.

Like it or not this is a rebuilding year and we're gonna take our lumps. If you think otherwise your in for a major let down. It makes perfect sense to RS MW, the kid is super athletic but young and not quite developed. He's going to be something special. Why burn a year he's not going to make or break this season. I REPEAT he's not going to make or break this season, Think about it!
I would definetly like to see at least 2 spots open up next season ... we need to up our recruiting and start going after higher caliber players.

I agree...it will be more helpful most likely for the program to have Wolfe on the 2017-2018 team then on the 2013-2014 team. However a "rebuilding" season at Siena is a season similar to the ones Paul Hewitt (17-12) and Fran McCaffery (15-13) had in their first seasons. Now I realize they took over teams with more veteran talent and our OOC schedule is a lot tougher. I'm not going to panic if we have a losing season at say 15-17 but we should and will have our successful moments this season. I expect to be pretty good at home (say 10-4) but struggle away from home - that is what young teams typically do. We might beat Manhattan at home and turn around at lose on that road at St. Peter's. The key is improving as the season goes go and for player development. I would not all be surprised with a 2-7 or 3-6 type of start with some close losses and then wins starting to come more frequently as we get into January. What I really want is to be a team nobody wants to play in March and in the offseason we are getting excited for a run at the MAAC title in 2014-2015!

You can click your heels and repeat it three times if you want, but you are still not going to drive your point home. You don't know that he is not going to make or break this season. If he is the best big man we have right now than he needs to be out there helping the team win games. All this touchy feely crap about it being fun even if the team is 2-11 won't seem like much fun if it actually happens. If he can't help the team win this year than all the more reason to play him so he is ready to help next year.... There is not a plethora of talent on this team; Patsos needs to be playing with a full deck especially since Silas is foul prone. I fully expect Patsos to play him. I can't believe so many of you are this passionate about redshirting a good player when the team is coming off a single digit win year.

Silas will start because he started a lot last year too. No one is saying throw Wolfe to the wolves (sorry;), but if he plays, he'll be the guy on the floor with 5 min to go in a tie game. Wolfe will be a better player in 2017-'18. So would Long, White and Wright. What man isn't better at 23 than 18? What I don't get is what people see in front of him? Silas? Bisping? Really? Wow, you guys are in for a culture shock once the season starts. I say live and die with the freshman this year. I'd start the Fab Four (Wright, White, Long & Wolfe) with Poole. With two more impact kids, our 2014-'15 team could legit contend for a MAAC title.

I was going to go but wound up having to work............. With this much differing opinion on the players I guess I'll just wait to the UA game to see what conclusion Jimmy comes to. From what was posted If I had to pick right now I think I'd play MW , I'd have to go with HJ's opinion here. Is he on the same plane or greater than when Silas and Bisping arrived a Siena? My guess would be much greater, so although these guys may have the upper hand now 10 games in with some experience he will overtake the 2 of them.
Honestly, the hype around Silas I just don't get.

Do you guys think Jimmy is the PW? Give me a break, you guys see Wolfe in practice one day and you are all experts. You see the obvious athleticism on Wolfe and say he is the best big man totally ignoring the fact he is 200lbs, and quite frankly not strong at all, the fact his family was interested in redshirt year etc. If you dont think he will get thrown around like a rag doll, you are not dealing in reality
I have no idea if Wolfe will redshirt this year..but I will say this if Wolfe will help this year and play significant minutes I’m quite sure Jimmy will play him. Give it a break and have a wee bit of faith that Jimmy will do what’s best for Siena basketball, I’m quite sure Jimmy wants to win this year as much as anyone

The staff see him every day- I have faith they will make the right call
