The only way I would use an available scholarship should one become available, would be for nothing shorter than a a 6'7" athletic wing who can jump, has at least a decent shot from near or beyond the three when he starts college, and plays his best when he is in the open court filling passing lanes and facing the basket in the half court set.
He doesn't have to be an Edwin Eubiles when he starts college but he must be a kid whose potential would be to become a Eubiles.
We have been missing that type of player since Edwin left so it's about time we get that type of kid giving us minutes out on the floor as we watch him develop into a star. Soon we need this type of player to ultimately come in that fits this role and who could turn out to be a game changer.
I personally thought we already had that exact type of kid on the roster for a year and half by the name of Michael Wolfe but hey, who am I to judge that this kid was not treated better with more playing time so that he would stick around and possibly develop into something big; possibly the first Siena player who could really have a good shot to having an extended and successful NBA career?
Any word on where Wolfe ended up?

Did we ever have a shot at Cain? Probably not a good one. He's already screwed over one school, and the staff heard some other stuff that might have made them gun shy after the Cole fiasco. Iona has 75 offers out. They offer everyone. He showed them interest. I can see why Iona is attractive to a kid like that. Close to home, run and gun, no defense required. DePaul is on him pretty hard too I guess. Once we signed (2) 6'4" HS wings, we were done recruiting 18 y.o's.

Yeah, and he's an Ohio kid...not a local kid. Most Ohio kids dream school is the Buckeyes, so put them on the top of the list. I think they got the Lee kid, who was a 5th year from Temple, last year. Does he want to play for OSU or the team that beat OSU?

I think there's a very good chance Oliver starts at the 2 next year. Nico will get plenty of minutes there too though. No need to put pressure on an incoming freshman for a team that will be expected to finish in the top 3/4 next year. Oliver being a senior, and knowing the system, gives him a big advantage at the start of the season. Could Nico end up starting down the road next year? Definitely. I'm all for giving Lavon 25 minutes, off the bench, as something thats best for the team, and him. That means an experienced wing/SF is still a must. I think Wormley gets 10 min a game at the point. Evan will have to battle WB for minutes behind Brett. Imoh gets 12-15min at center behind JO. The loser of the back-up 4 battle, Paige and LaRose will really have to fight to get on the court. I am not a gambling person but I would bet anything Lavon continues to improve and will not allow anyone to take his spot. IMOP its best for the team that he starts as long as he continues to work hard and earn it.

I'm pretty close to this-- starters next year Jo-Brett- Lavon- Nico and Wright, Nico is too good to keep on bench. Imoh gets get 10- 12 min backing up JO, Agree on either fisher or WB back up Brett, Oliver will get 25 min backing up 2 and 3 Wormley 10 minb backing up wright -- LaRose, Paige and loser of back up 4 are spot min players ..now if we get a transfer eligible I'll switch this up And I'll say that without seeing much of LaRose who could earn some time at 3-- kid is a sniper. Same for Paige who might prove he can play some 3 For now this is what we are looking at, very solid at 4 and 5-- I'm not sure we saw the true Lavon this year ( he was banged up pretty good) he really needs to get a consistent right hand. But I think we are better off at the 3 in Jimmy's system than some of you think, Nico and Oliver ( maybe a bit of Kenny Wormley at the 2) and Quis and Kenny at point, fairly deep and pretty solid group ( of course I thought we would be deep this year)

Jimmy recruiting preferred walk ons. Kid offered by Manhattan
6'0" guard Tom Capuano (Iona Prep '15) might be the true definition of perseverance, and proof that when you set your mind to something you can achieve anything. After coming into the season with limited Division 2 interest, the slightly undersized Capuano, who is averaging 16 points per game for the CHSAA Archdiocese of New York regular season champions, just received his first Division 1 offer, with other D1 schools now hot on the trail as well.
M. Wingate Tom Capuano It may have taken a bit longer than he would've hoped for, but last Wednesday Capuano, who was recently named to the CHSAA All-League 1st Team, received his first college offer from Manhattan.
It was a moment that he said he will never forget, adding that getting extended the offer makes all the hard work into his game feel like it has paid off. His head coach at Iona Prep, Vic Quirolo, says when the offer came last week, he was just as happy and emotional as Capuano was.
"We had a basketball camp at Iona Prep and he left to go to Manhattan, and when he came back he had the offer and he was in tears," Quirolo explained. "Matt Ryan '15 was hugging him, and Ty Jerome '16 was hugging him, and it was like world was off his shoulders. He was so happy that I got emotional as well because I look at him and I knew how bad he wanted it. He had a dream and he went and got it."
Having Ryan and Jerome there celebrating with him was no surprise knowing the closeness and the relationship the three have with it each. Capuano calls the two his brothers, and says that whenever something good happens to the other, it's a good things for them all noting that they will be in his life forever.
While Manhattan is the first Division 1 school to offer, they may not be the last. Dartmouth is expected at Tuesday's game against St. Peter's to watch Capuano, while Niagara, Maine, and Siena are all in the picture as well. Siena has actually already offered him a preferred walk on spot with a guarantee of a scholarship for his junior and senior years according to Quirolo.
Maybe it's the fact that he didn't play major AAU basketball, instead staying loyal to his local program CWB, or maybe it's because he is slightly undersized, but for over 2 years now, Capuano has done anything that the Gaels have needed him to do in order to win, and that is what makes him such a special player in Quirolo's eyes.
"Tommy truly does whatever the team needs. Last year when Matt and Ty got hurt he would score 25 or 30 a game. This year with them back he played his role, but make no mistake about it, there were games when he was clearly the best player on the floor for us this season," Quirolo admitted.
Capuano says he doesn't know if that was true, noting that he just cares primarily about getting his team wins, and that statistics are secondary. He says that after the season once all the recruiting is done he will sit down with his family and really look at all of his options, noting that he has to be in love with the school as much as the basketball program to really make it work.
On Sunday Capuano says he will be up again at Manhattan though, spending the day with the team and taking in the game against Quinnipiac, but when that is done he says his focus for the rest of the season will turn to what he considers right now to be the most important thing.
"This next month is big. I have the college stuff, but also the playoffs. We want to win a championship, so hopefully by the end of March everything turns out good."

Now we are offering "preferred walk-on" status two years out. Amazing! Any level of due diligence would uncover the real value of a Patsos promise made to a friend and peer - don't see Cam having his promise fulfilled! Now the scheme is to get two years out of a kid.

I certainly realize the kid wouldn't be coming here - just amazed at the self-serving creativity, especially given that they have no intention to honor the one year promise.

HoopJunkie all due respect. Oliver is a great kid, nice shot but just to slow a foot.

HoopJunkie all due respect. Oliver is a great kid, nice shot but just to slow a foot. No denying that. He's just 4 years older than Nico, and has a world more experience. If I was a head coach, I'd lean towards "starting" the 22 y.o. senior. Why put so much pressure on this kid to be the savior for a 10 win team? For the first 10 games, let's see how it plays out with both of them getting 20 min a game at the 2. I think both may see some time at the 3 too, and even play together at the 2 & 3 sometimes. Nico shows he's the superior player, I can see him moving into the starting line-up by Christmas, and getting 30 min a game. Moving him along slowly and putting no pressure on him to be, "the man" is the right move in my opinion. And I've said this out here before, who cares who starts anyway? All I care about is who finishes.

Exactly. But Oliver is a role player and happy doing so. Not sure how comfortable he is starting.
