Has anyone given any thought to the similarities between Michael and Lavon? Both 6'6" tall. Freshman weight about the same. I believe both are lefties. Would appreciate thoughts on this from other posters. Here's Michaels Bio for his freshman season; "2002-2003...Enjoyed most productive rookie season of any player ever to don the Green and Gold...Selected to MAAC All-Rookie Team...Named MAAC Rookie of the Week four times...Set Siena freshman scoring records with 440 points and 13.8 points per game...Pulled down 7.2 rebounds per game...Started final 27 games of season...Reached double figures in 25 of 32 games...Had seven or more rebounds in 19 games...Registered four double-doubles...Shot 52% from the field and 69% from the free throw line...Scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in victory over Providence (1/4)...Notched three consecutive double-doubles to end the season against Rider (2/23), Manhattan (2/27) and Saint Peter's (3/1)...Recorded 21points and five rebounds in narrow loss to nationally ranked Xavier and consensus All-American David West...Scored 20 or more points four times. From what I've read about Lavon he appears to have the potential to match Michaels freshman season. Wouldn't it be great if he did!

I'm sure we'd all love if Lavon reproduced Haddix' numbers. There games are so different, though, I have a tough time comparing them.

Loved Haddix, but mike's career rebounds were inflated by all his missed shot/put-backs. I'd say Long could surpass Mike and be more like an Alex Franklin type player. I think Long will be a better defender than Haddix (again more like a Franklin). Just my opinion.

Lavon is a cross between Haddix and Franklin-- BTW Lavon is taller than either of them..Haddix was 6'4.5" and Alex 6'5.. Lavon is more athletic than Haddix was and not as athletic as Alex.. Lavon looks to be a better ball handler than Haddix and prolly as good as Franklin was-- good thought. If Lavon is anywhere in ballpark of either player we have a really good player the next 4 years

Very simialr bodies, and both left-handed, but Long is able to step away from the basket and do some good things. Haddix is probably the better post up player, but Long can still do damge on the blocks when he wants to.

More importantly, Long will certainly eclipse Haddix's 63 career assist tally (yeesh). Haddix was a very productive player, but was a bit of a black hole - when the ball went into him, a shot was undoubtedly going up. With that said, if Lavon matches Haddix's general productivity in his freshman year, it will be a great sign of things to come.

Lavon is a lot like Rakim Sanders.

Lavon fills all the five major statistical categories. That will be his claim to fame...even if he does not have the ball in his hands to make plays he will kick it out to shooters and can get 2 or 3 asst per game from the 4 spot if he gets the mins
9.3pts, 4.2rebs, 1A, .7blks, .25 stls after 4 games and a 1pt 1reb included in the totals...non starter playing less than 20 mins a game mostly at the 4 and KK he only has 3 TOs in 4 games and 4 asst how is that terrible?

Assists and steals are major categories for guards. For a small foward I'd substitute 3pt% and FT% as major categories. Whare are his numbers in those catergories so far?

I don't mean that his stats are terrible. I mean he's not doing what it would take for it to benefit the team for him to play SF.
FG% = 17-31 = 54.8% 3pt% = 0-2 = 0% FT= 6-10 = 60% 17 boards = 4.25 per game 40 pts = 10 per game 3 assists, 5 TOs 3 blks 1 stl

These games don't matter. I'm just blowing smoke. I just want him to play the 4 for the mismatch and running aspects. It makes us a much better team. Still, if he wants to play the SF, it's on Lavon to show everyone he belongs there. This team gives up a lot by moving him there and losing out on that mismatch.

Is this the final Lanier year, where the players just do what they want? Lavon is doing what the coach tells him to do, just like everyone else. He's playing the 4 and putting up shooting and a/to numbers very similar to the guards anyways.
