resolving this roster spot with Hymes is so important for next season. Does anyone have any inside information which direction this is going to go?

I have no inside information - as you'd have to know Hymes to have that. But if I had to venture a guess, I'd say he ends up staying. He's on record as stating he doesn't really want to go and he's going to talk it over with his mom. Knowing that, I can't imagine a parent in the world that will tell their kid to give up their dreams and leave college to come home and take care of them.
I don't know what the Hymes family situation is, but I have to beleive there are other options for his mother's post eye-surgery care than Evan moving back to take care of her.

If he's practicing with the team that to me says he's staying. Truly, how much time can he devote to his mother with the time constraints needed to devote to practice. Some coaches I believe conduct practices before the players attend classes and then have another couple hours of practice after those classes. Then it's back to the dorm maybe to get some rest and then attend to your schoolwork before retiring for the night and then repeating the cycle in the days to come. That's not even mentioning players often spend extra time working on their game after practice. And once the season is over they continue to play 5 X 5 for an hour to 2 hours a day. Then when school is out for the year they're required these days to attend like 6 weeks of summer classes. Thus, I see these NCAA waivers to tend to so called sick family members as ludicrous. Life or death circumstances are a whole different ball game.

Don't lose sight of the fact that this semester is still in session and Evan will finish his classes. Practicing is both a benefit to the team (numbers) and him (conditioning). The NCAA mandates the number of hours total per week that players can practice with a coach present - having the entire team on the floor with basketballs with the coaches is also a controlled timed event. Yesterday's full team workout went for an hour. Individual hour long sessions are permitted with a max number of players per coach - if I recall it correctly I believe it is 3 for an hour. Can't recall how many total hours per week but they do not practice on an unlimited basis as Mr. Siena suggested while classes are in session. One on one conditioning may also have time constraints. There is no limit on the time the kids can be on the floor if no coaches are present.

Unfortunately with all the bad habits these kids have picked up the past few years I am not sure how much benefit they are going to get from practicing without a coach.

at this point is the decision solely his? Jimmy has said that Evan is welcome, it's Evans decision from what I understand.

Does anyone know to where he intended to transfer? Maybe he's staying because he has nowhere to go. It's not like he was heavily recruited out of high school. Everyone mentions he could come in and be productive in a limited role, maybe hit a few threes ala Tay. However his 3 point avg wasn't that good and meanwhile he would be good for a few turnovers and his man would go merrily along undefended. Go for the vacancy!

I'm looking forward to Hymes starting next year and seeing what he can do in the open floor. He'll play a more reasonable 25-30 minutes per game and be less of a liability on defense using his speed to trap opponents. His numbers regressed last year as the coach formerly known as the PW degraded his skills. Assuming he works hard and given the surrounding talent his offensive output will be better than his freshman year which was not bad considering the circumstances.

If Hymes starts at the point next year and plkays 25-30 minutes a game, Siena's record will be under .500. Best observation I've heard on his talent came from a very knowledgeable basketball person who commented at the end of Hyme's FRESHMAN year that he didn't see much improvement in Hyme's overall performance from the beginning of the season to the end. He felt Hyme's had a very limited basketball IQ. And it wasn't the PW who was suggesting that Hymes take ill advised threes at inopportune times. As a point guard he doesn't know how to manage a game and doesn't see the entire floor. Also doesn't answer thee question, Did he have anyplace to go? Get the vacancy.

Couple things, first, I believe it was first reported on Saturday April 6th that Hymes intended to transfer. i'm not sure if he officially had his release from Siena that day or not, but within a week he was re-thinking that. Not sure he spent much time exploring opportunities down in North Carolina. As for the Tay comparison, I think it is actually quite good. I am not a fan of Hymes playing 30-38 minutes a night like he has these past two seasons, as he suffers from the same limitations Tay did due to their size. As for his 3 point field goal percentage his first two years he is 120-343 (35%). Tay his first two seasons was 122-372 (33%). Tay was also only at 34% for his junior year. It wasn't until he was a senior did he connect at a high percentage at 44%. I'm somewhat indifferent as to whether he returns or not. If he wants to stick it out I hope he buys into being a valuable piece off the bench like Tay was. If he elects to head closer to home I will be perfectly content in letting Coach Patsos bring in another guy, whether that be a transfer or another incoming freshman.

I couldn’t agree more. Brain. Hymes has two years’ experience playing. As long as Even “buys” in to the fact he won’t be playing 30plus min a night, I think he can be a very valuable cog off the bench. And hey who knows If Wright comes, I would imagine Even would be battling Jiggets for the min at Back up PG
Very hard to judge players in the PW system, we have all seen players like Jordan, David Ryan tay Fisher all flourish in Fran’s system when they looked like crap in Laniers

Let's not forget that Evan will be playing in a totally different environment if he decides to stay. This team will run and run and run some more. He will not be defending in a "zone only" defense. I know we'll use pressure more and his quickness will be an asset. Most importantly, he won't be playing in an "offense" where the ball must go through OD and use most of the shot clock.

I like Evan and wish him the best where ever he is. My concern is his TO's. In a slow paced half court game the numbers he had are difficult to accept. If Patsos is going try to play a fast paced game. If my memorie is correct, and it might not be, he was awful on fast breaks unless he was completely alone going to the basket.

Hymes (as well as others) were as marooned on the break as they were in the half court. Tough to judge any of these guys considering the system
